Getting the Band Back Together

I wrote about joining Productively Funny (https://www.productivelyfunny.com/about) back in 2021 when it looked like Covid was passing, and normal life was going to resume. Since Covid decided to stick around, companies continued their work-from-home policies and that pretty much negated any form of live team building or team training. As such, our team went on hiatus. I’m happy to report that we are getting the band back together as companies are bringing their employees back into the office and starting to look at ways to strengthen their teams.
Productively Funny uses Improv techniques and exercises to conduct our workshops. No slides to put people to sleep. Our workshops are built around active participation by attendees and use humor to improve learning and retention. Having attended a session prior to retiring I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the team.
For those who know me, you know that this is a bit of a stretch for me. That’s a big part of the draw though. As I’ve written many times, it is important to learn and step out of our comfort zone in order to grow – especially as we age. And I’m looking forward to learning from the team and expanding my comfort zone in the process, much like Toastmasters helped me to do. It’s a bit scary, but all new challenges are. If it doesn’t make you a little uncomfortable, it’s not a challenge and therefore it’s not going to help you grow.
As life returns to about as normal as it’s likely to get, there is so much new material to bring to teams to help them work better together. Returning to the office after so long offers several challenges for people – commuting again, working live with other people, re-learning office etiquette, dress codes, to mask or not to mask, and on and on. All those potential landmines are why I am so excited that we are getting the band back together to have the opportunity to help people make the most of being back in the office.
