Just Missed...

Another post inspired by attending a Celebration of Life service and remembrance. This one for the mother of one of my wife’s friends. Lorraine passed away in May of 2020 and like my cousin and so many others, a proper service was not possible due to Covid. This was finally the tribute that Lorraine deserved, and her family needed. It was heartwarming to see the outpouring of love and support that family and friends shared.
As this was our second such gathering in 2 weeks, my wife and I were looking for a beer - or two - on our way home. Our local brewery would be closed by the time we got into town so there had to be a plan B. Once I figured out our route home, my brain started running through breweries that I knew were in the area. We much prefer a local brewery to a bar for many reasons. As luck would have it, Twin Elephant in Chatham was right on our path. Double bonus as we have been wanting to visit the brewery but never seemed to find our way there. This is where the post title comes in as Sunday is the one day that our friend Liz doesn’t work there. Fear not Liz, we will get back on a day you work!
Regular readers know there’s a message coming at some point so here goes. We could have simply driven home and lamented that we missed our local brewery. But by rolling with the circumstances and being willing to try a new place, we were introduced to a nice facility friendly staff, and some tasty beer. Being open to spur-of-the-moment thinking presents all kinds of opportunities to experience new things, and that is key to life. Being a Tumbleweed (see previous Be a Tumbleweed post for more on that) may drive others crazy at times, and I can attest to that when my wife is in full Tumbleweed mode, but going with the moment makes life more interesting.
I’m a firm believer in having a plan, but too much planning makes for a dull existence. So don’t be afraid to let yourself go with the flow of the moment when it feels right. You will have a lot more fun, and life will be more interesting and rewarding. In our case we visited a brewery we hadn’t been to yet, enjoyed the beer and the atmosphere, and best of all, we got to give a proper toast to Lorraine.
