My Favorite Music

This post was inspired by the Father’s Day Family Circus comic strip in which oldest son Billy told readers about his favorite “music”. None of the sounds he wrote about were actual music, but all were music to his ears; a reminder to appreciate the sounds of nature, home, friends, and family. Here is what he listed:
The school bell that sings it’s time to go home
Daddy driving into the garage
Mommy getting the dishes out for dinner
People laughing downstairs when we have company
The lawnmower meaning it’s Saturday and Daddy’s home
The quiet when it’s snowing (one of my favorites)
Kittycat’s purring because it means she’s happy
Frogs and crickets at night
Birds in the summertime
That comic strip got me thinking about how much sound plays a part in our lives. Whether it is a favorite song that cheers us up when we are down, a friendly voice that provides comfort, a dog barking that jolts us awake, or even the sound of the air conditioner kicking on when it’s really hot, sound impacts our moods and emotions, usually without us realizing it.
Below is a list of some of my favorite “music”:
My wife’s soothing voice when I’m not feeling well
Our cat’s chirp when she wants to be petted
Waves as they lap up against the shore
Skates gliding across the ice
Bike tires as they leave the asphalt for a gravel or dirt path
The crack of the bat indicating a well hit ball
Children playing outside
Chains clanking as my disc falls into the basket (disc golf – ex.(https://discgolfbaskets.com/products/growthesport-2-0-portable-disc-golf-basket?currency=USD&variant=7046944260130&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxdSHBhCdARIsAG6zhlUjQVSX-RmjST7gHaDNx_fZN9BRkTUKY7pCUZFZF53L_qd7D4PMKjwaAumaEALw_wcB )
The scratch of pen on paper while writing a letter to a friend (yep, I still do that)
Glasses clinking as friends toast being back together again
What is your favorite “music”? Take time to think about what sounds bring happiness, contentment, and peace to you, and then take the time to listen.
Watching a baseball game and the crack of the bat on a no-doubt home run...
The sound of a live guitar wire being plugged into a guitar...
The snap of putting two Lego pieces together...
My cat "talking" to me...
The sound of a good strong breeze whistling past...
The low hum of a good AC unit...
The natural sound of silence when out in the country or woods... No traffic sounds at all...
Car tires on the driveway when my wife comes home...
The sound of my wife's laughter...
