Time to be Thankful

As Thanksgiving approaches it’s time to take a few minutes to think about all we have to be thankful for. Sure the last few years have been rough, with widening political and social divides, and then Covid tossed in to turn the whole world upside down, but there are always things we can be thankful for. Sometimes we just have to take the time to look for them.

I may not seem thankful for anything when I am grumbling about chores like raking leaves or shoveling snow but in the big-picture I am blessed to have a nice home with a yard that is our little oasis. In the moment I am thankful for all the curse words I know and the new epithets I create. I’m also thankful for my iPod so I can listen to music to ease the pain of those nasty chores. Sometimes just a little thing is all it takes.

For me there is a long list of things to be thankful for. Being able to retire early is way up on that list. Reconnecting with family and friends after being locked down for so long has been a huge morale booster. Being able to have family together for Thanksgiving is another one, though while making repeated trips up and down the basement stairs with tables and chairs, and rearranging furniture, those curse words may come in handy – the little things. Celebrating 20 years with my wife is a highlight of this year as is the continued success of her home staging business. Another big one is the opportunity to create this blog, and I’m thankful for all of you who take the time to read what I write. I could go on and on but I won’t, so you can be thankful for that.

Instead, I will ask you to take a few moments to think about all you have to be thankful for. During the rush of the holidays it’s easy to get caught up in the stresses and forget what is being celebrated and why. Be sure to take timeout to exhale and think about all the things and people that make your life better – and how you can make someone else’s life better.

I will be giving my brain and fingers a rest by taking next week off. My next blog post will be in early December – wow, this year has flown by!

Happy Thanksgiving!
